Officers stated they were alerted by a individual who discovered a car in Hanau marked with reddish fluid

Around 50 vehicles have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.

Cars, walls and postboxes were marked, in some cases with swastikas, they announced in a official communication.

Law enforcement report they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish fluid.

The substance had been drawn in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they reported.

Police then located many other marked vehicles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.

Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.

Law enforcement report preliminary tests indicate the substance was most likely human blood.

"Currently there is no indication as to its origin; authorities are presently not informed of any physical harm in association with the occurrence," they commented.

Local authorities stated they were attempting "to solve the case" and have asked to the residents for information.

A senior political figure said the incident made him stunned and needed to be addressed promptly.

"This incident hits the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the right-wing terrorist attack in 2020," he wrote on social media, recalling the death of nine people by a assailant aiming at individuals of migrant background in five years prior.
