Nineteen of the Russian's twenty-one championships have been achieved on hard surfaces

A resurgent the Russian player won his maiden championship for 882 days with success over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The Russian, a former world number one, has endured a torrid year, managing just one win at the major tournaments and experiencing a setback at the American major.

The player's varied form on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serve in particular - resulted in him dropping out of the elite rankings and eventually splitting with long-time coach Gilles Cervara.

Currently collaborating with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, the tennis star has steadily advanced in the recent weeks - culminating in a tightly fought three-set triumph over opponent Moutet.

It is his initial trophy since the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard court from spring of the previous year.

Success also means Medvedev has won twenty-one championships at 21 various events.

"It's the first time I have attended a tournament with my children simultaneously, so to secure a trophy is especially meaningful," said world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in dedication of my child her name, because the maiden victory I achieved when my first daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had lost his previous six championship matches, featuring in that event earlier this year.

The player's defensive approach and regular emotional displays on court had prompted some to wonder if his capacity to perform at the elite level was concluded.

Yet the athlete has made changes in the last few weeks, striving to approach the net and play positively, backed up by an improved service.

The champion came back from a break down in the first set against the tricky Frenchman, winning four of the concluding five points to go ahead.

The competitors swapped breaks in the middle set before the challenger, striving for his initial ATP Tour championship, seized the initiative to force a third set.

The opponent defended 4 initial opportunities in a close final set before Medvedev broke to 15 to secure the win.

Fittingly, Medvedev clinched the win with a rally at the front of the court, with Moutet failing to manage a volley after a lengthy match.
