The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Unveil a Latest Divinity, Declaring it Their Biggest RPG Yet

The speculation around the recent awards show reached a fever pitch, notably after host Geoff Keighley posted an enigmatic photo of a strange statue. The mystery has now been solved. The acclaimed developer is creating a completely new Divinity game.

Revealed to be Divinity, the game was showcased with a daring trailer that included memorable imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the literal unleashing of hell.

Not the Expected Sequel

Anyone hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. The studio warned that a follow-up to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not being worked on now.

That said, the developer described this new Divinity as a evolution of the core franchise. This choice of words hints that the team might be crafting a real-time experience rather than another turn-based title. Currently, we can only guess, as only a teaser video is available.

The Legacy of Divinity

The Divinity series is widely praised and it's fair to claim it kicked off the recent resurgence of complex computer role-playing games. These games are defined by intricate stories, choice-driven narratives, and flexible progression—qualities that later were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its universe is classic fantasy, what makes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust bestowed upon the player.

In contrast to modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is full of niche playthroughs only possible if you're playing as a particular class or origin with a unique decision path.

The series is also notoriously flexible, enabling players to experiment in narrative and gameplay. Virtually all objectives can be approached in diverse methods, often in lateral fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you remembered something an animal companion shared.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by using the world itself in a inventive way.

The Journey Continues

It is this design philosophy that have cemented the series to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games of all time. Now, the RPG community can get ready for another adventure in this esteemed franchise.
